ADULT RETREATS
|
|
Stoking the Internal Fires to Elevate Your View
3 day retreat - August 13 through 15, 2010
Join Susan in an intimate setting in the back cove of Portland for a weekend of vinyasa flow yoga, walking meditation, lighthouse exploration, and home-cooked organic food. Arrive at the studio by 7:00 PM sharp on Friday for an overview of the weekend and a short, relaxing practice. On Saturday morning the adventure begins at 9:00 AM with a 4-mile walking meditation around the ocean waters of the back cove followed by a vigorous 90-minute practice in Mat Madness studio. Early afternoon options include a bike ride or lighthouse tour. We reconvene for a 2-hour yoga workshop/practice that will illuminate what asana offers beyond physical transformation! This will be followed by a fresh and organic meal prepared by Susan at her home. Join in the Satsang discussion afterward on finding your unique yogic path...or spend some time meandering, sipping tea or dancing in the Old Port section of Portland. Sunday morning practice begins with another walking meditation followed by 90-minute practice in Mat Madness Studio. And the weekend wraps by noon so you have plenty of time left to play along the rocky coast!
Participation is limited to the first 10 people to sign up. Cost is $300 for the weekend. To reserve your spot for Stoking the Internal Fires to Elevate Your View, send an email directly to Susan at: susan.mccadam@gmail.com.
NOTE: Room or camping accommodations should be made well in advance as the summer crowd that comes to Portland is hot!!

YOUTH PROGRAMS
Have Fun/Be Fit (Ages 7-10)
6 to 8 hour-long sessions
Fitness activities and nutrition information designed to create awareness of how to live a healthy and balanced life. Coupling information from the American Council on Exercise “Operation FitKids” curriculum with age-appropriate group exercise, the students will learn fitness facts at the same time as they’re having fun doing strength training, aerobic, and mind-body activities. A healthy snack will be provided – please inform us of any dietary constraints so we can accommodate!
Let’s Have a Ball (Ages 10-12)
6 to 8 hour-long sessions
Exciting and novel core training and fitness activities using a stability ball (formerly known in therapeutic circles as Swiss ball) are introduced. Over the course of six weeks, the children will progressively rock and roll on the way to better balance, symmetry, agility, and coordination. In this lively group exercise format set to music, the students will also learn fitness facts as they get in shape for other sports and activities.
COLLEGE PROGRAMS
Stress Free Zone Demonstration
one 2-3 hour session
A mind-body workout is a great way to reduce stress, particularly during college finals! Your students and staff can participate in our Mat Madness Fusion class or just watch to see what it’s all about. We’ll also have materials related to Pilates and Yoga on hand for perusing. Students and faculty can decompress and have fun doing it.
CORPORATE PROGRAMS
These brown bag seminars typically include a single 1-2 hour session with optional follow up sessions for individual participants.
The Significance of Core-Training in Functional Fitness: Fad or Fact?

An interactive workshop that introduces participants to the scope of dysfunction in health and fitness: muscular imbalances and altered sensory perception that create faulty movement patterns in most individuals over time. Learn what muscle balance, mechanical efficiency, neuromuscular coordination, and proprioceptive awareness feel like. This is an opportunity to play with some of the tools of the trade fitness professionals use to help clients optimize functional fitness and keep it fresh and exciting.

Getting Fit: What Should You Shoot For…and What Can You Expect?
Interpreting fitness information can be overwhelming – an excuse to avoid exercise! Using the latest guidelines from leading health and fitness organizations, get exposed to trends in corporate and hospital wellness programs. Information on motivation and adherence in an exercise plan will be shared. How to keep it lively with creative class programs, i.e., fusion martial arts and dance, is explored. Be an informed consumer of fitness services and products. It’s never too late to get started. For individuals signing up for a personalized program, each participant leaves with a set of tailored recommendations based on the latest ACSM guidelines on flexibility, strength training and cardio-respiratory fitness.
